Cherry Mobile has also launched, together with Flare, a new Android 'phablet' called the Cherry Mobile Titan, at the Flare Up! Event at One Esplanade. This 5-inch smartphone boasts a powerful dual-core processor but with an affordable price of PHP 6.499 only!

Cherry Mobile Titan has a very large 5-inch capacitive display, a less powerful dual-core 1GHz processor, a 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM (expandable up to 32GB microSD card), a 5MP rear camera and VGA front camera, 3G/HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and microUSB. New dual core Cherry Mobile Flare for PHP 3999 only!

Cherry Mobile Flare
The Cherry Mobile Flare sports a generous 4-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen, a powerful dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of ROM (expandable through MicroSD card up to 32GB), and,  a 5MP rear camera with flash and VGA camera at the front. Nokia Lumia 510 goes official

A new Nokia Lumia phone that has been leaked before goes official now, the Lumia 510. An entry-level Windows phone, Lumia 510 will be the most affordable phone under the Lumia series.

Nokia Lumia 510 (Source: Nokia Conversations)
Nokia has done good with this affordable device, which aims to compete with  Android devices within the price range. It has a large 4-inch WVGA TFT capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution; a 256MB RAM and 4GB internal storage (non-expandable), which I think is a little limited, especially for those who love apps, music, and videos; a 5MP camera with autofocus, and can record videos at 30 fps; a Snapdragon S1 processor clocked at 1GHz, that guarantees fast and powerful performance. Other specs include: GPRS, EDGE, WLAN connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS/ A-GPS, and microUSB.

Although this phone is non-expandable (as it runs on WP7.5), and has limited memory, users of this phone will have a free 7GB free online storage on SkyDrive which they can access whenever and wherever. Other Windows phone features that Lumia 510 will have include: Live Tiles (characteristic feature of WP), People Hub for social networking, as well as Microsoft Office Mobile apps and Internet Explorer 9. Nokia Maps, Drive and Transport were also included as well.

Lumia 510 will be available by November, first in China and India, followed by Asia and South America. Price starts at USD199, excluding taxes and operator subsidies.

By the way, here's the promotional video:

Seems Nokia is very serious in replacing Android with Windows Phone with this new feature-packed Lumia 510. What do you think?

Unofficial Nokia Asha 205 leaked through Navifirm

A new Nokia phone under the Asha series, called Asha 205, emerged from Navifirm. (a tool for getting firmware images and codes of Nokia products)

Nokia Asha 205, leaked in Navifirm
With the model number RM-863, this yet to be official Asha phone appears to be a QWERTY phone, as it shows in the thumbnail image.

No word yet from Nokia, even the pricing of course, but it should be launched soon. But since it is an Asha phone, it would certainly be at an affordable price.

Alcatel Philippines to launch One Touch 993D

Looks like we are wrong about the teaser photo Alcatel Mobile Philippines posted on their Facebook account. There's no coming ICS update for your Alcatel Android phones for those who are expecting, but instead, they are releasing a new phone, the One Touch Insight 993D.

Alcatel One Touch Insight 993D (Source: facebook.com/alcatel.ph)
We have featured Alcatel One Touch 993 on this blog before (check it here: http://usapangtekno.blogspot.com/2012/07/coming-soon-alcatel-one-touch-993.html) Basically, this phone is a lesser version of the One Touch 995 Sapphire HD, with a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen, and a 5MP rear camera with LED flash plus VGA front camera. This phone is also dual-sim capable. Added to that, it is much bigger and heavier than OT-995. What sets it apart from the other released Alcatel Android phones here in the Philippines is that it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

What I love with this phone is that it has a much better design compared to OT-995, although it's more bulkier. And of course it already runs on ICS compared to other Alcatel Android phones which are still waiting (or not) for an ICS update.

But it seems Alcatel will be left behind competition even with this new phone going to be released. One reason is that I think this model should have been released earlier, August to be exact, to battle with Lenovo P700, as it has the same specs, except that P700 has a much larger battery capacity of 2500mAh compared to OT-993's 1500 mAh capacity. And now Lenovo has released the twin, P700i, competition will surely be intense. Another thing is that there are lots of other locally branded phones such as MyPhone and Cherry Mobile with same specs and aggressively low prices.

Alcatel has not yet specified the price and date of release, but I think it should be less than 9K (although I doubt it) for it to be a hit. Alcatel One Touch Insight 993D is sure to have lots of potential and who knows, you may prefer this one over the other brands.

UPDATE: Price is PHP 9.990 (SRP)

Lenovo Mobile unveils S560 and K860

Lenovo has again launched two new powerful phones, the Lenovo S560 and Lenovo K860, after they have released Lenovo P700i.

Lenovo S560 is a midrange phone that has almost the same specs with P700i. It has both the large enough 4-inch IPS LCD screen and the dual-core 1Ghz processor. What makes it different from the recently launched P700i is that it is more of a phone for music lovers. It is so because it has Dolby speakers for a rich audio experience. It also has a lesser battery of 2000 mAh compared to the battery monster Lenovo P700 and P700i at 2500 mAh capacity. Also, it will sell at the same retail price of P700i, at PHP 10,999

Lenovo S560 (Source: defendgun.com)
Other specs include a 512 MB RAM and a 4GB ROM (expandable up to 32GB memory card), a 5.0 MP rear camera and a VGA front camera, A-GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi capability, and, a gravity, proximity, and light sensor. It is also a dual-sim, dual-standby phone as with other Lenovo phones, and it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Lenovo K860

On the other hand, Lenovo K860 is more of a 'phablet' as it packs a large 5-inch screen. It boasts a very powerful quad-core 1.4GHz processor. Other specs include: a Mali-400MP GPU, a gigabyte of RAM, 8 MP camera w/ autofocus and LED flash, a 2MP front camera, WIFi capability, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and a  2,250 mAH battery. It will run on Android 4.0 ICS OS. Unfortunately, it only supports one sim. Price is at PHP19,999, which is very affordable compared to other phones with the same specs.

Apple may reveal iPad mini at October 23 event

Apple Inc. will be holding an event at October 23 and many are expecting that the Cupertino-based company will unveil its latest iPad offering, the iPad mini. This smaller device, compared to former iPads, is set to compete with Kindle and Nook.

iPad mini? (Source: gizmodo.com)

Although no product is specified to be launched in the event, or what will it be all about, all assumes that it will likely be the iPad mini. Who knows, maybe they will release a teaser photo again just like what they did with the iPhone 5.

Will this new Apple product beat the veterans Amazon (KIndle) and Barnes & Noble (Nook), or maybe the newbie Google (Nexus)? Let's see.

Lenovo P700i: Lenovo's newest bang-for-the-buck phone

Lenovo P700i, a new phone from Lenovo Mobile, will surely be a hit as its lesser twin, the P700. A 4-incher phone with a dual core 1GHz processor at less than PHP11K is surely a bang-for-the-buck.

Lenovo P700i
Lenovo P700i has almost the same specs with P700, but now it has a much powerful processor which is twice the speed of the former. And of course, a faster processor means less lags and more compatibility with graphic-intensive games for your phone. As with P700, you'll get a large enough 4" IPS LCD capacitive multitouch screen (16M colors), a PowerVR SGX531 Ultra for the GPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM (expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB) , a 5MP rear camera w/ autofocus and a VGA front camera, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi capability, light, gravity, and proximity sensor, and FM radio.
Lenovo P700i (etotalk.com)
Like its twin, it's a dual-sim and dual standby phone. A long-lasting 2500 mAh battery also powers the phone. Available colors are black and white.

It will be sold at PHP 10,999! So I guess those who are planning to buy a P700 are very fortunate that they can switch to a more powerful phone with the same amount. But if you still want P700, you can now get it at PHP 9,999!

Lenovo P700i finally unveiled

I posted an article here before about a teaser photo Lenovo Mobile Philippines posted on Facebook about an upcoming phone. Here's the photo again:

Yesterday, Lenovo Mobile finally revealed the phone via Facebook, and yes, it is a Lenovo P700i, an upgraded version of Lenovo P700. P700i has a better dual core 1GHz processor compared to P700's single-core 1GHz processor

Lenovo P700i
Lenovo P700i has the following key features:
  • 4" IPS LCD capacitive multi-touch screen
  • dual core 1GHz processor
  • 5MP autofocus camera w/ VGA front camera
  • 2500 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • dual-sim, dual-standby
Features are almost the same with its lesser twin, except of course for the processor, which has twice the speed and power.

It will be available in black and white. Price is at PHP10,999.

Facebook now has 1 billion active users!

Social networking site Facebook is currently celebrating as they hit 1 billion active monthly users. Here's what it's founder and current CEO Mark Zuckerberg said via Facebook:

Celebrating a billion people is very special to me. It's a moment to honor the people we serve.

For the first time in our history, we've made a brand video to express what our place is on this earth.

We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It's what brings us together. It's what brings meaning to our lives.

Facebook isn't the first thing people have made to help us connect. We belong to a rich tradition of people making things that bring us together.

Today, we honor this tradition.

We honor the humanity of the people we serve.

We honor the everyday things people have always made to bring us together:

Chairs, doorbells, airplanes, bridges, games. These are all things that connect us.

And now Facebook is a part of this tradition of things that connect us too.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as we do.

Thanks for helping connect a billion people.

Happy 1 billion users to Facebook! It's free and will always be!

Nokia hits Apple iPhone 5 again with Lumia 920's ad

Ever since Samsung did a direct attack through an ad to Apple's iPhone 5, lots of mobile manufacturers followed suit like Nokia and Motorola. Nokia does it again with a Lumia 920 ad against the iPhone 5. Here is the video:

In the video above, people are queuing up in a store (obviously the Apple store) for a phone labelled as 5 (again, obviously the iPhone 5), then one man suddenly asks for another color of the iPhone instead of the usual black or white. He then just left the store disappointed but then he saw people outside the store, each using various-colored phones (which is the Lumia). The ad ends with the tagline, "This is Lumia".

Well, for me brightly-colored covers, instead of monochromatic ones really gives life to a phone, and that is a good strategy of Nokia. So, what do you think? Will you stick to the monochromatic iPhone 5, or move to a brightly-colored Lumia 920?

Nokia Lumia 510 leaked

Nokia Lumia 510 has been leaked once more, now with some specs revealed.

Nokia Lumia 510. Source: GSMArena
This new entry-level Windows phone from Nokia will sport a large-enough 4" display, a small 256 MB RAM, and a 4GB internal memory. These specs are not that bad for an entry-level phone, considering the large internal memory and screen it offers.

Price is initially at $150, and will be available worldwide by next year. It will hit first China.

Alcatel One Touch 997: Alcatel's first waterproof phone

Looks like OT-995 Ultra will no longer be Alcatel's flagship phone, after they released OT-997 Ultra, which obviously is a higher unit. What is new with OT-997 is that it is a waterproof phone, which is a first from the French company.

Alcatel OT-997 sports almost the same features with OT-995, including the 4.3" 16M colors display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, G-Sensor, Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi etc.

What's new with this smartphone is that it has a higher 8MP autofocus camera with flash, a powerful dual core 1GHz processor, surround sound experience with SRS feature, Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and of course P2i water resistant coating.

Here's the video from Alcatel One Touch's Youtube page:

I'm not sure whether it will be launched here in the Philippines. For the price, I'm sure it will cost more that OT-995 Ultra.

UPDATE:
PRICE: PHP 11,990

UPDATE: Alcatel Mobile Philippines will soon launch this phone here. Check this article.

Alcatel One Touch phones to receive Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade finally?

Alcatel Mobile Philippines has hinted through a Facebook post an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to all its users. Here is the image:

ICS update coming to Alcatel Android phones?
Alcatel One Touch Global before has promised its users that OT-995 Ultra (Sapphire HD here in the Philippines) will receive an ICS update although there's no given date.

Nothing is clear yet whether all or some Alcatel Android phones will receive the long-awaited ICS update, or possibly new phones coming with ICS out-of-the-box.

Practically, software updates are good only if the hardware can still support it, but of course Alcatel could have tested the updates first before implementing it to all of its products.

UPDATE: No ICS update yet for Alcatel Android phones, instead new ICS out of the box coming.
