Opera Mini 7.1 for J2ME and Blackberry phones now available

In a world were smartphones now rule, there are still a lot of people who prefer simple phones that allow them to call and text, and connect to the internet. Opera makes these users feel they are not left out (including me) with the new Opera Mini 7.1 for J2ME and Blackberry phone users.

With the new OM 7.1, you don't have to worry about not being able to finish downloads when you lost your internet connection. You can simply pause your download, then simply resume it when you get to connect again. Another improvement is the file access. Blackberry users can access files through the browser while J2ME (Java) phone users "can  choose to let the phone open the file directly in e.g. a media player or to save it for later use."

Also, the Opera Mini 7.1 is much faster and better than before. Thanks to the data compression technology that saves you a lot from data and connection costs.

Alcatel Mobile Philippines hints upcoming One Touch 997D ULTRA

Last month, I posted an article about Alcatel's first waterproof phone, the One Touch 997D ULTRA, which I think is their new flagship phone (as it is a higher unit). Here's the LINK anyway.

Just today, I saw this picture at Alcatel Mobile Philippines Facebook page:

One Touch 997D has P2i water resistant coating to keep the water from getting inside the unit. Specs include a large enough 4.3" TFT WVGA capacitive touchscreen (16M colors, 800 x 480 pixels), a dual-core 1GHz processor, 8MP autofocus camera with flash, front VGA camera, surround sound experience with SRS feature, and Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Battery capacity is at 1800 mAh

Seems like Alcatel will be releasing this phone after all. Alcatel One Touch 997D has been in Alcatel One Touch Global website for a month now and its good that it will be released here. As far as I can remember, only one brand has waterproof smartphones in the market today, Sony (acro S and go). It's good that Alcatel will be joining the roster. This will surely be perfect for people who can't keep their phones from getting wet (just kidding!).

No pricing and availability date yet but I'll keep you posted once I get the info.

UPDATE: Price is PHP11,990

By the way, here are two promotional videos from Alcatel, which I find awesome:

Microsoft Office coming to Android and iOS early 2013

Good news to Android and iOS device owners! Microsoft will be releasing a mobile version of their office suite, the Microsoft Office, for your devices, and it's free!

(Source: The Verge, GSMArena)

But since it's only a free version, you can only read documents and no editing whatsoever. if you want the editing function, you must purchase an Office 365 subscription.

It will be available for iOS by late February or early March, and on May for Android.

Nokia Lumia 830 leaked

A new Nokia Lumia phone has leaked again in China, and it's called Lumia 830.

Nokia Lumia 830. (
A new Windows Phone from Nokia, the Lumia 830 is not a variant of the Lumia 820, although their names are quite near, but a successor of Lumia 710. What is known about this upcoming device is that it will be available in five colors and will be running, of course, in Windows Phone 8 OS.

JUST A THOUGHT. Nokia is really really serious in pushing Windows Phone to the market, and it seems other brands are riding at the back of the Finnish company while they make waves, as they enjoy Android in their other phones. Will Nokia succeed and take the top place again? What do you think?

Nokia 109 officially launched

Nokia has just announced a new budget S40 candybar phone, the Nokia 109. Just like its brothers, it has the traditional keypad, but with the new Nokia Xpress browser. It is aimed for the next billion who wants a very cheap phone with all the essentials like messaging, call, music and internet.

Nokia 109
Nokia 109 has the usual 1.8" TFT screen with 56K colors and 128 x 160 pixels, which for me is very OK as I own a C1-01. For your multimedia needs, it has a music player and FM radio, with recording function in selected markets. No need to worry if you want lots of music on your phone as you can expand its memory through a microSD card up to 32GB. Want everyone in the room to hear your favorite songs? Use the powerful built-in speaker that can reach up to 103 phons (unit of apparent loudness).

On the other hand, if you love to surf the internet or just post to Facebook or tweet, the new Nokia Xpress browser is there. It works like Opera Mini that compresses data to lessen operator charges which is a big plus for those who want to save money.

Games anyone? With your Nokia 109, you can download 10 EA games for free to keep forever! Such a nice bonus from Nokia and EA.

Lastly, battery standby is up to a whopping 33 days or 7.5 hours talktime! Perfect for those who hate charging every now and then.

It will be available in two colors: cyan and black, this December in China, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Price is at $42 without local taxes and subsidies. (PHP 1700+)
