Research in Motion (RIM), the creator of BlackBerry devices, has just released their newest smartphones running on the newest BB10 OS: the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. Z10 is a full-touch smartphone, while the Q10 is reminiscent of former BlackBerry phones, as it has a QWERTY keyboard. We'll talk about Z10 in this article.

The BlackBerry Z10 is RIM's answer to the full-touch trend. It packs a 4.2" WXGA capacitive touchscreen with a 768 x 1280 pixels resolution (355 ppi) and 16M colors, a powerful Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait processor, Adreno 225 GPU, 16GB internal storage (expandable with a memory card up to 32GB), and, 2GB of RAM.

But hey, you get a nice phone with a large display, a powerful processor, a long-lasting battery, dual-sim dual standby capability, as well as mobile TV, for only PHP 5,690. That's already a handsome deal!

Alcatel One Touch Inspire 2: 4" 1GHz Android phone on Jellybean

There's the Glory 2 (S'Pop), the Sapphire 2 (X'Pop), and of course, what's left is the Inspire 2 (M'Pop)! (By the way, about the Pop phones: X'Pop is for Extra large, M'Pop is for Medium, and S'Pop is for small.) Inspire 2 is a big leap to the disappointing Inspire 991D.

The Alcatel One Touch Inspire 2 sports a 4.0" WVGA TFT capacitive touchscreen that has 480 x 800 pixel resolution and 16M colors, a Mediatek MT6575 1GHz single-core processor, 4GB ROM (1.4GB user memory, expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card), and, a 512MB RAM.

It has the same 5MP AF rear camera with Sapphire 2 but without the LED flash, which is capable of recording 720p videos at 30fps (frames per second). A VGA camera is at the front for your video chats.

Other specs include: 3G/WiFi/Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, Proximity/Light/Gravity sensors, A-GPS, micro-USB (2.0) port, FM Radio, and HD Voice.

It will be powered by a 1400 mAh battery, which should have been bigger because of the large screen. It will also run on Android 4.1 Jellybean just like his siblings.

There are lots of colors to choose from: black, aubergine, cherry red, ocean blue, slate, hot pink, tangerine, turquoise, apple green, and pure white.

Alcatel Mobile Philippines hasn't announced it yet on Facebook so no pricing and exact availability date info yet.

Alcatel One Touch Inspire 2 (M'Pop) is a nice upgrade from the somewhat disappointing specs of Inspire 991D. What's just missing is the dual-sim function, which Alcatel hasn't added to their newly-released models. Would you buy this one in case? Tell us by commenting below.

UPDATE: It is dual-sim! The US version is the one with only a single sim.

PRICE: PHP 4,990 (5/7/2013)

Alcatel One Touch Sapphire 2: a 4.5" qHD dual-core powered Android phone

Along with the Alcatel One Touch Glory 2 (S'Pop), the Scribe HD, and the Ultra Idol, two more phones from the original One Touch Pop series are set to arrive here, the One Touch X'Pop and the M'Pop, which will be locally called One Touch Sapphire 2 and One Touch Inspire 2, respectively. We'll talk about the Sapphire 2 in this article.

The Alcatel One Touch Sapphire 2 (known internationally as Alcatel One Touch X'Pop), the successor of the Alcatel One Touch 995 Sapphire, packs a 4.5" qHD TFT capacitive touchscreen that has 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 16M colors (so expect a crisp and vivid display),  a powerful Mediatek MT6577 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB ROM (1GB user memory, expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card, and, a 512MB RAM.

On the photography department, Sapphire 2 has a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, that is capable of recording 720p videos at 30fps, and a VGA front camera for your video chatting needs.

It has the usual 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth (4.0) connectivity, as well as proximity, light, and gravity sensors. A-GPS, FM Radio, HD Voice and Noise Cancellation features are also present.

Battery capacity is at 1800 mAh. It will be running on Android 4.1 Jellybean OS, which is good. It will come on a lot of colors: black, aubergine, cherry red, ocean blue, slate, hot pink, tangerine, turquoise, apple green, and pure white.

The Alcatel One Touch Sapphire 2 is priced at PHP 6,990 and is available now on major gadget stores nationwide.

Nice specs for a nice looking phone. Good job Alcatel! Sapphire gets a new look with this successor.

Ainol Novo 7 Venus: Quad-core 7-inch HD tablet for PHP 5,700!

Chinese electronics manufacturer Ainol has just unveiled a new 7-inch tablet that is so affordable yet high-specced, the Ainol Novo 7 Venus.  It's a quad-core powered 7" HD tablet that costs as low as PHP 5,700 only! And it's running on Jellybean!
Here are the specs of Ainol Novo 7 Venus:
  • 7" IPS HD capacitive touchscreen, 1280 x 800 resolution
  • ATM7029 1.5GHz quad-core processor
  • Mali-400 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage (expandable up to 32GB TF card)
  • 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera
  • G-Sensor
  • WiFi connectivity\
  • mini-HDMI
  • supports external 3G dongle
  • 4000 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jellybean
Yet another affordable 7" Android tablet from Ainol, which has a good reputation with the industry for making affordable yet quality tablets. I think this is a good buy for someone wanting to buy a nice tablet with good specs yet won't hurt your pockets.

It's $139.90 (about PHP 5,700) here at Ainol Novo online store (though I'm not sure if this store is a good place to buy online) and $145.99 at the Ainol Store. But it's better if Novo 7 Tech (a local reseller of Ainol tabs) or Gameline would bring it here in the country.

Alcatel One Touch Glory 2 coming soon

Yes, you're reading it right! Glory's successor is coming here in the country, along with One Touch Scribe HD and Idol Ultra in the form of the recently unveiled Alcatel One Touch SPop. It will be called locally as the Alcatel One Touch Glory 2, as it looks like an upgrade of the bestsellling Glory (918N).
Here are the specs of the One Touch Glory 2:
  • 3.5" HVGA TFT capacitive touchscreen, 320 x 480 pixels(165 ppi)
  • 1GHz Mediatek MT6575 processor
  • 4GB ROM (2GB user memory, expandable up to 32GB w/ a microSD card
  • 512MB RAM
  • 3.2 MP rear camera with autofocus
  • VGA front camera
  • 115 x 61.2 x 12.2mm
  • G-sensor, proximity and light sensor
  • Bluetooth 4.0/WiFi/3G connectivity
  • A-GPS
  • micro-USB 2.0
  • stereo FM radio
  • Android 4.1 Jellybean
  • 1400 mAh battery
    • 254H standby (2G), 350H (3G)
    • 5H taktime (2G) 6H (3G)
    • 3H 40 min charging time
Quite a nice upgrade to the old Glory which has a small 3.2" HVGA TFT screen, a slow 650 MHz processor, and a low user memory. Unfortunately, Glory 2 is not dual sim, and still has the same camera. But what's good is that it has a faster processor, bigger screen (but the same resolution), a bigger 2GB user memory, VGA front camera for video chats, and a bigger battery of course (as it has a bigger screen). And it will be running on 4.1 Jellybean compared to Glory which is on Gingerbread.

Alcatel Mobile Philippines has not announced it yet but I'm quite sure it will be available soon as it appeared on the Alcatel One Touch Philippines website. Of course no pricing yet but I'm hoping that it will come on an affordable price.

It may come to Sun Cellular's Postpaid plan too, just like most Alcatel phones.

It will come on black, aubergine, cherry red, ocean blue, slate, hot pink, tangerine, turquoise, green apple, and pure white colors.

UPDATE:  The Alcatel One Touch Glory 2 is dual-sim. It's now available at Sun Cellular for Plan 350. I hope they sell the unlocked version too.

Thanks sofie for the info.

Google takes office in the Philippines

Search engine giant Google has just opened its local office here, specifically in Makati, as announced at an event in Taguig earlier. This is to enhance online services for the country, which has 33 milIion internet users. tt will be headed by Narciso Reyes, as the country manager.
It's a good news for people on the look for a new job as well. As they're opening their office here, they are now in search for employees that will be part of the local arm. Of course, anyone wants to be a part of CNN and Fortune's No. 1 of the best companies to work for.

Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD, Idol Ultra, and SPop (Glory 2) are coming to the Philippines

Even though Alcatel Mobile Philippines FB page hasn't announced it yet, I'm sure these 3 new recently unveiled smartphones are coming to the Philippine shores. I'm talking about the One Touch Scribe HD, One Touch Idol Ultra, and the One Touch SPop (Glory 2), which were announced by French company Alcatel at the International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2013, and are now shown at Alcatel One Touch Philippines website.
First off is Alcatel's first 5" HD smartphone, the One Touch Scribe HD, it packs a 5" IPS HD LCD capacitive touchscreen (720 x 1280 pixels, 294 ppi) with oleophobic coating for protection, a powerful 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 4GB internal memory which can be expanded through a memory card, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera with LED flash, and a front VGA camera. It will run on Android 4.1 Jellybean. Battery capacity is  at 2,500 mAh which can deliver longer usage.

It will be available in flash red, flash yellow, pure white and black colors.
Next is the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra, which is currently the thinnest smartphone in the market at 6.45mm thin! It packs a 4.65" HD AMOLED capacitive scratch-resistant touchscreen (1280 x 720 pixels), a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB internal memory (13.3GB user memory, no card slot), 1GB of RAM, a powerful 8MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 1.3MP front camera. It will also run on Android 4.1 Jellybean. Battery capacity is at 1820 mAh.

Package includes the battery, a slim MOU charger, a slim micro-USB cable, a USB adaptor and earphones (no 3.5mm head jack due to its slimness), and the quick user guide.

It will be available in flash yellow, red, and black.
Lastly, the Alcatel One Touch SPop or the One Touch Glory 2 (the local iteration and the successor of Glory) , is the last member of the Pop series. It packs a 3.5" HVGA capacitive touchscreen (320 x 480 pixels, 165 ppi), 1GHz processor, 4GB ROM (2GB user memory, expandable with a memory card), 512MB RAM, and a 3.2MP camera as well as a VGA front camera. It will run also on Android 4.1 Jellybean. Battery capacity is at 1400mAh.

It will be available in cherry red, pure white, and black colors.

This is a good lineup for Alcatel One Touch Philippines, and I'm sure fans would be delighted, especially for the Idol Ultra and the Scribe HD. But I hope the other Pop phones would make it here also.

Cherry Mobile Cruize unveiled

Chery Mobile has just unveiled an XXXL treat for consumers, the Cherry Mobile Cruize. It's a 5.2 -inch ICS phone powered by a 1GHz processor. And it's very very affordable for a price of PHP 4,499 only!!

Here are the specs of the Cherry Mobile Cruize:
  • 5.2" capacitive touchscreen
  • 1GHz processor
  • 4GB internal memory
    • expandable up to 32GB with a microSD card
  • 5MP rear camera with flash
  • VGA front camera
  • WiFi/3G/Bluetooth connectivity
  • GPS
  • 2500 mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 ICS
  • Price: PHP 4,499
I can say that it's another bang-for-the-buck 'phablet' from Cherry Mobile! You have a large 5.2 inch screen that's perfect for watching movies, a powerful enough 1GHz processor that should be able to handle tasks like games and apps well, a sufficient 4GB internal memory that can be expanded with a memory card, 5MP camera that could snap nice looking photos well, and, a VGA front camera for your video chat needs.

What's more good is that it has a 2500 mAh battery which means longer use. It has the same battery with the Lenovo P700 and P700i which can last for 2-3 days for slight usage, but the Cruize's larger screen may compensate for these. But overall, these are all nice specs on a measly price.

Megaupload takes a new form: Mega to go live by January 19

As we all remember, the popular file hosting site Megaupload was taken down by the US Department of Justice because of copyright infringement (onlne piracy). Tons of music and movie files, games, and programs were all free to download, which is illegal.

Its founder, Kim Dotcom, wants to relive the site again in a new form. He announced through Twitter his new project, a site called Mega, that will go live by January 19. It goes the same way like Megaupload, you can store your files and share them in a single click.   Also, based on the screenshot, a free account will offer 50GB storage.
