Sharp SH530U: 5" dual-core Android smartphone for PHP 9,990!

We may remember Sharp for calculators and appliances, and yes, this Japanese electronics company have entered the smartphone scene in the Philippines too. They currently have three Android phones out in the market today but in this article we'll focus on the Sharp SH530U, a 'phablet' sporting a large 5" display and is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, and is priced at PHP 9,990 only (originally PHP 14,990)!

With a 5" display, the screen is very sufficient for your viewing pleasure, albeit the low resolution. On the bright side, it has a powerful dual-core processor that is sure to deliver fast performance. The 20GB internal memory may be good for many since there's no hassle of moving apps to your card, but may be bad for those wanting more memory for their music, movies, and photos.

On the photography department, the 5MP rear camera is fine but will not be perfect for low-light shots, as it doesn't have an LED flash. And there's a VGA camera for your video chats.

Another good addition is the dual-sim feature to ease the burden of carrying two phones in your pockets. It's dual-standby too like other local competitors. Lots of Filipinos are into this type of feature so its a sure plus.

It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which is somewhat the norm for Android phones here in the Philippines. And the good news is it's now upgradeable to 4.1 Jellybean via OTA (over-the-air) update!

On the physical side, the unibody design with matte finish is great too. So you're guaranteed with a good grip and will not leave fingerprints.

Overall, it's a good phone for those wanting a 'phablet' without having to spend so much. It's also a perfect alternative for the Galaxy Note which is twice or more the price. But it may find it hard to compete with local 5-inchers such as Cherry Mobile Titan and Titan TV, which costs less.
